the Ubangi Stomp festival only takes 5 issues with this, and it has become a reference of the festivals of our country in rockabilly. In this Thursday starting October 28 we see Ray Sharpe, Alton Lott, Mike Sanchez, Lil Esther and Al Willis & The new Swingsters, among others.
addition to the great musician, which is nonsense, the Ubangi stands can find vintage clothing and rockabilly, record labels, activities, and of course, a tremendous atmosphere in a luxurious setting. Held in the Hotel Bali, the highest in Europe, a skyscraper with 18 elevators, outdoor jacuzzi, 2 restaurants, bars, and the audience.
Hector and Ruth are the organizers of the event, and talked exclusively for Suspicious Mind, this is what have told us.
1. Where does the name of Ubangi?
is a song, Ubangi Stomp, recorded by Warren Smith in 1956 in the landmark Sun Records in Memphis. A well-known item in our scene, with numerous versions over the years. One of the reasons why we chose what is this and another because it begins "Well, I rocked over Italy and rocked over Spain ..."
2. All organizáis Ruth and you, how does the idea of \u200b\u200bstarting a rockabilly festival in Benidorm?
was a series of circumstances, founded in 2005 with 4 others Roots American Association Promotion. After several parties and local gigs in the first quarter of 2006 we learned that the artist from the 50s Art Adams came to play for France in October of that year, agreed to pay half the costs with the French organizers. And since we had a 50s artist hired for contacts with other groups for a 2 day festival with 8 bands. That was the first Ubangi Stomp, in 2006.
* 2 people, a relatively minor way, a city that is not capital, is not it a bit kamikaze? How do you do?
With great enthusiasm and means we can, everything is self-managed, we have no subsidies and no sponsorship. Yes, the Bali Hotel also puts much of his party for the festival go ahead.
3. I'm curious, how do you do to bring more veteran artists?
"Through the record? Some are already retired to
Each year is more difficult to find original artists are in good shape, wanting to stick the beating to come to Europe. There are times when we contacted them directly online, with their agents ... we also move much during the year, try to go to all the festivals that we can and that makes us see how the market and sometimes talk directly to the artist.
4. Of all the artists who come to this issue, what would you highlight and why?
Of course the artists of the 50s, Alton Lott and Ray Sharpe, because they come exclusively for the first time operating in our country. And as mentioned before, it is increasingly difficult to enjoy an original artist on stage, is a law of life. Without detracting from the other artists on the bill, each year we try to make it more attractive for the wizard, I would point out to Mike Sanchez, an Englishman with English parents, a real showman, with a long musical career. Will perform Friday night with his band and accompanying Ray Sharpe on Saturday.

5. Of all the issues so far what has been your favorite and why?
not you know that each has had its charm, its positives and its moments of tension. The first very excited, also fell into beginner mistakes. Are steadily gaining experience that makes you go more secure for the next issue. But as I said, currently there is one that says "the best."

8. I've seen that in addition to the booths will be dance classes, that interests me, tell me how it goes.
unfortunately this year there will be, responsible partner has just moved to the Canary Islands and has not had time to find replacements.
* And in addition to classes and dance competition, and concerts, activities, what else will?
The activity highlights on Sunday at noon, a market that is mounted with non-professional sellers, meaning that you can take what is left you or your closet disc and selling in the market. Also a good opportunity to find collector's items.
9. Besides the music, which I love, I have wanted to soak the ambientillo to be, which is not so easy to find in my day to day.
is a good choice if you want to spend 4 days surrounded by sounds, aesthetics 50s, with special glamor that time, the comfort of staying in the hotel where all activities are held, and also this year's bridge! As we have said workers from other years, "which is repeated again! "
10. In Spain there are several festivals rockabilly, what makes the Ubangi different?
I have said the Screaming (one of the most important, if not the most important) is larger but also more commercial (but older people has sold many records at the time as Janis Martin, for example) , but in the Ubangi would be able to find more underground rockabilly. What do you think of this? Do you agree?
tell you the truth is not our intention, it is clear that each national festival, the Screamin 'you mentioned, High Rockabilly, Rockin' Race ... everyone has their special touch and its characteristics. Every developer tries offer the best for wizard, do not forget that the vast majority invest part of their holiday and money to attend a festival. So our "secret" is trying to offer what we would like to receive when we go to a festival, neither more nor less. I hope this weekend, thanks Bea!
